Survey: Most Americans believe government broken - CNN.com

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll was conducted February 12-15, with 1,023 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Washington (CNN) -- Americans overwhelmingly believe that the government is broken, according to a national poll released Sunday.

But the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey also indicates that the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what's broken can be fixed.

Eighty-six percent of people questioned say that the system of government is broken, with 14 percent saying no.

Of the 86 percent, 81 percent say that the government can be fixed, but 5 percent say it's beyond repair.

US agency to investigate Blackberry and iPhone makers

BBC News - US agency to investigate Blackberry and iPhone makers:

"The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has said it will investigate the makers of the iPhone and Blackberry, over technology used in their handsets.
The case was prompted by a complaint by camera firm Kodak against Apple and Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of the smartphones.

Kodak alleges the iPhone and Blackberry use technology for previewing pictures that infringe Kodak patents.

Kodak has asked the ITC to bar both firms from shipping the phones.

The camera firm said in January, when it filed the complaint with the ITC, that it had been in talks with both firms 'for years' to try to resolve the matter 'amicably'.

Both RIM and Apple declined to comment on the investigation."

Panasonic GF1 Updated With Colors | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

gf1-pink

Panasonic’s GF1, the can-do micro four thirds (M4/3) pocket camera, has been updated. But don’t worry if you’ve just bought one: this isn’t the GF2. Instead, Panasonic has added some new colors to the black, white or red bodies already on sale.

The GF1 now comes in a metallic, candy-colored pink and a steely gray. Both are rather fetching, and the pink would seem to be aimed at quickly cashing in on this Sunday’s celebration of love and 1929 gangland massacres, St Valentine’s Day. If you live in Japan, both models should be available today.

Inside you’ll find the same familiar 12.1MP, half-35mm-sized sensor, hi-def 720p video and sharp LCD screen, and the price will be the same, probably swinging wildly between $800 and over $1000, depending on who is selling it.

Your government at work - Thanks Alabama!

Senate Holds, Filibusters, and the “Nuclear” Option | Secrecy News: "Last week, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) placed a “hold” on all of the Obama Administration nominations that are pending before the Senate, thereby preventing a vote on their confirmation.

There are said to be at least 70 such nominations awaiting Senate action, including those of several senior defense and intelligence officials.

Sen. Shelby, a man of flexible principles who has served as both a Democrat and a Republican, reportedly adopted the blanket holds in an attempt to compel the Administration to award certain defense contracts to his home state of Alabama."

Spray-on liquid glass is about to revolutionize almost everything

Spray-on liquid glass is about to revolutionize almost everything

Liquid glass was invented in Turkey and the patent is held by Nanopool, a family-owned German company. Research on the product was carried out at the Saarbr├╝cken Institute for New Materials. Nanopool is already in negotiations in the UK with a number of companies and with the National Health Service, with a view to its widespread adoption.

The liquid glass spray produces a water-resistant coating only around 100 nanometers (15-30 molecules) thick. On this nanoscale the glass is highly flexible and breathable. The coating is environmentally harmless and non-toxic, and easy to clean using only water or a simple wipe with a damp cloth. It repels bacteria, water and dirt, and resists heat, UV light and even acids. UK project manager with Nanopool, Neil McClelland, said soon almost every product you purchase will be coated with liquid glass.

Food processing companies in Germany have already carried out trials of the spray, and found sterile surfaces that usually needed to be cleaned with strong bleach to keep them sterile needed only a hot water rinse if they were coated with liquid glass. The levels of sterility were higher for the glass-coated surfaces, and the surfaces remained sterile for months
